Some questions...
- Does STRESS equal a piece of chocolate cake?
- Does LONELINESS equal sugar cookies?
- Does FEAR equal eating a bag of M&M's in a closet?
- Does ANXIETY equal going through a drive through window and ordering a #1?
The Grace and Strength Lifestyle has created a series to helping you conquer the emotions that lead to emotional eating. Each week we will be addressing different emotions and how the underlying needs can be met without going to food for comfort.
If you can even remotely relate to the questions above, you will enjoy that our articles this month are all geared towards how to conquer the emotions that lead to emotional eating!!
All month long, we will be walking you through combating these emotions WITHOUT food! So, get ready!
My journey on Grace & Strength was filled with trying so hard to figure out how to conquer these feelings of food and fulfillment when it came to certain emotions. There was always an excuse or a justification for me that would make eating okay. It was what? AN EXCUSE!
You want to L.O.S.E some weight, right? Lets start here!
L.O.S.E. - What It Stands for:
Letting Go!
What thoughts and behaviors do you need to let go of the most to stop overeating and abusing food?
Options for accountability!
How can you start becoming more accountable to yourself and God when it comes to your relationship with food?
Setting Goals!
What are your short and long term goals? What types of non-food rewards will you use to celebrate these goals?
Engage in new thoughts and behaviors!
What facts will you "own up to" to help you reach your goals? What aspects of your life need to change to help facilitate this?
There are several scriptures that relate to food:
1 Corinthians 6:12 states, "I have the right to do anything," you say — but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything" — but I will not be mastered by anything.
Romans 14:20 states, "Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food"
So, how can Grace & Strength continue to help me conquer the emotions that lead to emotional eating, you ask?! In the coming weeks, we'll show you how to conquer the following emotions:
- Loneliness
- Fear
- Anger
- Sadness
- Anxiety
- Happiness (yup, even happiness can cause us over eat!)
These emotions are not bad! Emotions are a fact of life and you can't go through life without them. However, they CAN be dealt with WITHOUT the use of food!
I lived my entire first 30 years by comforting my negative emotions with food. I can honestly and openly say that Grace & Strength has helped me conquer these emotions without the use of food as comfort.
