I'm an impatient person. I always have been, and I'm working on that!
I want results, and I want them NOW! That was one of the aspects of Grace and Strength that was so appealing to me--the fast results. I found myself frustrated when I had small losses or stalls, and we won't even talk about the mornings that I woke up to a gain (all my own fault, of course).
One of the books that I was required to read when I became a G&S coach was Battlefield Of The Mind by Joyce Meyer. If you haven't read it yet then I highly suggest you do. You'll never think the same way again!
Not long after I finished this book, I implemented a lesson in my small groups that has remained a favorite for myself and my clients.
I call it "Little by Little".
You see, we often forget that we are on God's time, not our own. God knows the day that you will reach your goal. He knows how long it will take for your mind to renew, for you to form new habits, and to overcome the strongholds in your life.
Remember that you're in a "refining process". The changes that you need to make aren't necessarily the changes someone else needs to make. When you hit those frustrating moments, ask God what He is trying to show you. What does He want for you to change in your walk? How can you glorify Him right now, right where you are?
"Little by Little" helps us to appreciate our freedom more, to realize that it is a gift from God and not something that we achieved with our own strength. Remember, the enemy will try hardest to stop you in this area of renewing--you are growing for Jesus and he doesn't like it! He will attack you when you are weak, so remain in the Word and continue to seek the Lord for your strength! (Battlefield of The Mind)
"Little by Little" you will reach your goal. Remain focused and use your obstacles as learning moments.
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.7Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.8Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.9Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.10In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 1 Peter 5:6-10
