A biblical diet....hmmm....that had never crossed my mind. While I leaned on my faith in so many aspects of my life, I never even looked into a faith based program for weight loss.
This time last year, my 5 year old son told me that he could walk himself to class during his first week of kindergarten. I was devastated, but pleased because I thought he was expressing his independence. Later, I found out that a few of the kids had called me the "fat mom" when I had dropped him off. He was embarrassed of me, I was crushed and knew I had to find a new solution to find the healthier, new me.
I had been able to lean on God for everything else in my life, except food and getting healthy. I would blame the fad diets, the convenience of fast food, our stressful life, and being too busy as the reason for my weight failures. I could come up with a thousand reasons of why I COULD NOT complete a diet or keep the weight off. However, I never even thought to turn it all over to God as I had so easily done with everything else in my life. My weight wasn't Gods problem....it was mine!
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness..." (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
The truth was, I didn't have to do it alone. I needed a biblical diet that would coach me along the way and help me to discover my full potential. I needed scripture and evidence that He wanted me to succeed as much as I needed to succeed!
Then, I needed support. Support to keep me focused, support to help during the times when dieting wasn't so easy and support to celebrate during the milestones. I prayed and prayed while I searched for a program that would fit my needs spiritually, emotionally and physically. When I found the Grace & Strength program, I knew it was the perfect fit.
The Grace & Strength Program got me back to eating what God had intended for my body. About 60lbs less*, I walked into the first grade classroom with my son yesterday and his teacher asked me if I was interested in volunteering. I looked down at my son and asked his opinion. His response, " you better, mom....my friends love you!"
Thank God for no longer being the "fat mom!"
