HIS Name Brings Victory and Peace...
As I think back to my relationship with God before Grace and Strength, I had so many fears. My weight had gotten out of control for me and I was more insecure than ever before about this, which caused fear in social situations and all areas of my life. My clothes didn't fit, except my black sweatpants, my body hurt when I got out of bed each morning and I just couldn't enjoy life as much as I once did. I was stuck in a rut, a place of searching for the next best thing to eat or drink. Things I thought would satisfy were lattes, fast food, pizza or special baked goods that I'd make for my family. I thought that these treats would bring "sweetness."
I had some friends that were doing the Grace and Strength program who encouraged me to try it. My first thoughts were that I cannot do this. I was fearful of so many things; what would I eat without the comfort foods and would I fail like I had done so many times before. I have tried many other weight loss programs finding some success with a number on the scale and physically feeling great; even fitting into my skinny jeans. These things were all wonderful, but I have realized now a certain number on the scale will never bring true peace. Real victory for me is the peace that I have found through time with God and obedience to him. Grace and strength has shown me where the real "sweet" spot is.
Colossians 3:15 says: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
I have had a personal relationship with Jesus since I was in high school and have always known him, but Grace and Strength has taught me so much about following him with peace and letting go of those fears. What I have realized is this is a daily walk of obedience, not something that stops once I reach my goal. I have also grown in my focus on being more thankful. I am thankful for the foods that I get to enjoy that are close to the vine. I am thankful for the time spent with family and friends more than ever before and don't worry about what food is being served. Obedience to God is just the new me in these settings and that will bring lasting peace. I am learning to be thankful even on the days that are not perfect. My pastor once preached about having "peace like a river," a river that is constantly changing, moving with currents, through rocky places and many unknowns. Grace and Strength has been a refreshing reminder that there is no end to this journey. I am prepared for what each day brings and will start each day in the sweetest way possible, with Jesus!!
