Jenny's Story
Last fall I was comparing GNS with another weight loss program. I knew friends who had done both programs and they experienced success. I decided to enroll with GNS because I wanted the spiritual emphasis and accountability. As a Christian, Christ should be part of every area of my life and I realized I had "cubby-holed" Him and left Him out of my "eating cubby". That was going to change!
The "load days" with GNS was much harder than I expected. I never thought it would be hard to "pig out", but it was. I just didn't understand how this would really work. My mind struggled with eating more than I usually did and to eat to the point of being stuffed.
The first couple weeks I saw quick external and internal results and that kept me excited. During one of the Bible studies, Monica encouraged us to make "vision boards". I've been challenged to make one in the past, but never did. This time, I wanted to, not out of obligation, but because I felt it was important for my year and personal goals. The theme I chose for my board was "Intentional". Psalms 90:12 says "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." I choose to number my days by asking God to enter into every area of my life, including eating.
During another Bible study lesson, Monica focused on I Cor. 3:17 "You realize, don't you' that you are the temple of God and God Himself is present in you? No one will get by with vandalizing God's temple, you can be sure of that. God's temple is sacred and you ARE the temple." Vandalize means to deliberately destroy or damage, desecrate, disfigure, mutilate, sabotage, wreck or ruin. I knew my eating was wrong, but never allowed my knowledge to convict me. Vandalizing my body, God's temple, was a powerful realization that brought much conviction.
Resisting sugar for 3 months is completely new to me. I praise the Lord for how good my body feels. Sugar = inflammation and I knew that, but never experienced a lack of sugar in my body to see how it really affected me. I, honestly, feel fantastic! My joints are strong rather than tender and my whole body feels great.
I have missed eating carbs and sweets but the results of the GNS protocol has made the sacrifice worthwhile.
I'm incredibly grateful to the Lord for working in my heart, to my husband for supporting and encouraging me in this journey and for Monica's great tips and concern. On the brink of graduation from GNS, I'm grateful God's grace is sufficient and knowing He was tempted in every area I will be and He will provide a way of escape (I Cor. 10:13). I rest in that promise.
My journey with GNS has been revealing, convicting, challenging and rewarding for which I am very grateful.
