Kimberly's Story...
My sister-in-law and best friend told me about a health coach she knew and how great she looked and that she had kept her weight off for four years. She then told me that she was going to meet with her and discuss the program and she would let me know what she thought. As this was going on, my husband let me know that he had been praying for two years for God to give him the wife of his youth and that now that we were empty nesters (all four kids in college), I could do whatever I needed to lose weight and he would support me. (This is very important because he does most of the cooking at our house!)
Well, I was told about the program, included on all of Donna's calls and then left to make a decision quickly—with my bestie's advice: "you have to, because if it works and I start losing a lot of weight and you're not doing it, that would stink, since we talk every day"!
Bottom line, I was searching for something to just WORK! I had followed several plans very strictly over the years all with the same end result of 20-30 pounds gone, then stuck and no coach could ever get me further --- to that athletic build (grrr)! It was very frustrating, so I hopped on board with my best friend, having barely any of the information about the program and ran with it! It was simple enough to follow: eat these things ONLY and at these times, so I did it! Day after day I did it and when I got bored, my husband would change up the food and we would keep going. My kids were shocked when they came home for breaks and honestly they had more trouble with me not eating at Christmas than I did and that is where I learned my lessons!
I am a teacher and the first lesson was that I ate when stressed --- 3pm student dismissal done and I wanted food so --- fruit time it is! The second lesson I learned was that I ate food just to get it gone! This I learned at Christmas. I didn't crave apple pie but in the past I would eat it to get the leftovers gone! I learned about myself, my wants, my desires for food and I learned that I was happy with God's natural foods and it is amazing!
God is an integral part of my life and having the focus of this program on honoring Him with my choices helped me to draw closer to Him and learn what He wants for my life.
The word the Lord gave me for my journey was "WORTHY." I got the opportunity to learn that I am indeed worthy of the rich, full, healthy life that I desire. I learned that God made me worthy from the beginning and my struggles, though not food related fully, were in my mind—I had to learn that I was beautifully and wonderfully made—knowing it and believing it are two different things! I always knew what the Word said but I was not walking out my life believing what God says about me. My last days on the program were hardest because it was then that God was dealing with my heart and the fact that I was sinning against Him by not caring for my body. I learned that putting others ahead of me at all times was really a false humility, or PRIDE.
The verse that is now mine forever is Ephesians 5:29 "After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, JUST AS CHRIST DOES THE CHURCH."
I am happy to tell you that God cares about how we take care of ourselves and that we indeed DO take care of ourselves!
I am so grateful to finish this program, mind, body, and spirit! God cares about all areas of our lives and wants to be Lord of each one of them! Praise Him!
