Angie's Christ Centered Weight Loss Journey

A little more than a year and a half ago, I was probably at the moment that my life was at its lowest. I was over 200 pounds, a new mom, diabetic, and in general just unhappy with my life. My daughter, Rory, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called LCHAD, which basically means her body is unable to process or store fats that we need for energy.

She is on a very special diet and cannot have more than 4 grams of fat a day (it will increase as she gets older). Everything was overwhelming and I sought the comfort of food.

It was Thanksgiving Day and sitting down to dinner with my family, someone made the comment about how bad they felt that Rory would never be able to eat dinner with us. It really got me thinking that I needed a change in my life so that I could be a better mom and role model to her. That night, for the first time in a very long time I prayed for God to give me an answer. Then I remembered following Monica's journey when she was in Grace and Strength and how much her life and attitude about food had changed. I signed up, and knew that this was going to be my answer and I started before I knew it. Even at the beginning of the program, I hadn't totally bought into it and was skeptical. Rory had her first hospital stay on a meeting night, and I attended to listen in, and can't remember the topic, but I just remember being so moved by the word and the prayer in the meeting that I had like a new outlook on not only the program but also in life.

This journey has not been an easy one, and there have been many times that I have wanted to quit and a lot of tears. My coach never gave up on me and supported the whole way. I learned so much from her and the women in my group. I made friends for life and a support system that I never imagined I would have. I now know that I can accomplish anything through Christ.

My life has changed in so many ways. I am NO LONGER diabetic, and I'm off all my other medications for my thyroid and hormone imbalances. Rory is healthy, and the food that we eat is almost always safe for her, how many people can say that their 2 year old loves broccoli?!? I am active, and by active not just walking from the car into the building at work. I have ran at least three 5ks, I get excited about going to the gym or doing physical activity, and I am a better mom that I ever could be to Rory.

I truly believe that God put Rory in my life to not only find this program but to know how strong I am deep down.
